PTO Meeting Minutes - February 4th, 2014
Attendance: Erica Burns, Tara Cloutier, Jennifer Perreault, Lindsay Siano,
Melodie Goodwin, Angela Morrissey
1.Budget -
A. No pending or out standing payments. Nature's Vision to be submitted.
2. Projects -
A. Still brainstorming fundraising ideas for Playground remodel. Need time to really plan a golf tournament and obtain great raffle prizes. Maybe a sponsored round of golf at Crumpin Fox. Looking to book a date for a soup and games night at Hope and Olive. This needs to be done way in advance.
B. Benches are still in the works. Lindsay contacted the Franklin County Technical School to see if they would be interested in building benches around the four trees we have at the front of the school. They are interested and are getting back to us with a quote. Mel came across a Garden Grant which would provide anywhere between $50-$200. Benches were one of the topics discussed as to where to spend this money. Other items discussed were relocation of the butterfly garden and a new small garden around the Newton School sign.
Events -
A. Penny Wars to start on February 6th and run to the 14th. Each grade decided to donate the money to the charity of their choice.
B. Kindergarten Registration is coming up on February 26th, 27th and March 1st. PTO to provide snacks, craft table, games in the gym, bubbles and balloons to hang outside.
C. Movie Night is TBA. Waiting on sound. Talked about the PTO buying a surround sound system for the gym. Movie is still undecided.
D. Bingo for Books is TBA. Hoping to have it March 7th. Mel to confirm this date.
E. Spring Bookfair set for May 20th-23rd. Decided on a Mad Libs theme.
Fundraisers -
A. Dining for a Cause at The 99 Restaurant is set for March 18th. Flyers to be sent home after February break and again before the 18th. The PTO can have a raffle table set up. Would like to go the Chinese auction route. Anyone who would like to donate a prize or contact local businesses for a donated prize would be a great help.
B. Original Works still planned for end of March.
C. Movie Night at The Garden Cinemas sometime in the end of May or beginning of June on a Saturday morning.
Other Items -
A. Mel brought to our attention that Newton is in need of more computers. With AR testing and Lexia the computers are running all day to accommodate students. PTO is thinking of buying 6 computers for Kindergarten and First grade to help with the demand. Everyone in attendance thought this was a good idea and should be voted on.
The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4th at 6pm in the library.
