Meeting Minutes
September 9, 2013
Attendence: Lindsay Siano, Ruthanne Weissman, Angela Morrissey, Kevin LaMagdelaine, Dina LaMagdelaine, Melodie Goodwin, Jennifer Pereault, Jennifer Vernon, Erica Burns, Tara Cloutier
1. New Officers ~ Nominated and voted Lindsay Siano as Secretary. Jennifer Vernon as Media Secretary Specialist
Current officers: Erica Burns, President; Tara Cloutier, Vice President; Jen Perreault, Treasurer
2. Review Budget ~
A. We looked over and discussed the budget. Balance is $3389.40 with $547.44 allocated to the art fund for available PTO funds of $2841.96 as of 9/9/13.
B. Teacher Requests ~ Discussed the purchase of Scholastic News for all Kindergarten students using Scholastic dollars to be spent by 10/1 ($161.50) and using PTO funds to pay the remainder. Eileen Brown was in attendance on behalf of the Kindergarten team. People in attendance thought it was a good idea and Voted and approved to move forward with it. Ruthanne Weissman asked if we could supply ice cream for the Summer reading program ice cream social for participating students as we have done in the past. People thought this was a good idea and it was voted & approved to reimburse Ruthanne’s costs.
C. Parade costs- voted and approved to reimburse FSS PTO for costs related to walking in the parade for the county fair in the amount of $63. (side note: that on 9/10/13 discussion has continued to offer to pay more upwards to 50% of costs in fairness to schools that didn’t participate and were still billed. As of 9/11/13, discussion and voting is still ongoing)
3. Events
A. Book Fair ~ week of October 6th. Want to work in conjunction with staff who would like to put together a PJ Story Night involving community readers that Friday the 11thduring the book fair. Serve milk and cookies. 5:30-6:30pm.
B. Bringing back Family Nights ~ talked about Authors Night sponsored by World Eye Bookstore with local authors. Margo Apple and Jane Yolen were a couple mentioned. Literacy Field Day, read a book and then do a project having to do with the book read.
C. All School Evening Meal ~ Discussed November 21 for a dinner with games and prizes and also to pick up butterbraids and/or lightbulbs/wreaths. Macaroni and cheese, salad, and cookies was discussed as a meal option. Mel suggested PTO would be in charge of salad.
4. Fundraisers
A. Butterbraids to be sold 9/20-10/4 pick up during all school evening meal/Fall festival on Nov 21. Contact Emerson Farm and maybe Fair View Gardens for wreaths.
B. Discussed Yankee Candle Fundraiser but thinking it may be too expensive. Also discussed Lightbulbs and pick up could be during Evening Meal in November.
5. Projects and Goals
A. Butterfly Garden ~ talked about upgrading and moving our current butterfly garden to meet the criteria of the butterfly waystation. Everyone in attendance thought this was a good idea and agreed to move forward on it. Plans are for in the spring of 2014.
B. Sign ~ talked about mounting on the fence one the corner of Shelburne Rd and Rt. 2A. Something electronic? Those in attendance thought this was something worth looking into as a long term goal.
C. Playground Committee ~ talked about forming a committee to get new playground equipment. Need to get in touch with Greenfield Rec Dept. and the Mayor. Talked about where to find grant money. Those in attendance thought this was a good idea and to move forward on it as a long term goal.
6. October Meeting will be Tuesday October 1st @ 6pm in the library.
