December 3, 2013 - PTO Meeting Minutes
Attendance: Erica Burns, Tara Cloutier, Jennifer Perreault, Lindsay Siano, Melodie Goodwin,
Angela Morrissey, Kevin LaMagdelaine
1. Budget - Mel found grant money to pay for the buses that went to the UMASS
basketball game and for the Stone Soup field trip. Another anonymous donation
was made to the school of $100 which leaves an extra $240 to spend on field trips.
2. Projects -
A. Clothes for the Nurse's office are all set.
B. Coins for Coats drive set to be for February 5th through the 12th. Having it be
the "Penny Wars" style. Jenni Vernon volunteered to head this project just need
to confirm. Also thought of having a Math Night to go with the Coins for Coats
drive. Need to talk to teachers first to make sure this is something they would
like to do too. All in attendance voted that this was a good week to have the drive, voted and
approved.
C. Playground - Mel, Erica and Lindsay met with a project manager from GameTime
playground design. We are going to find grant money and ask local businesses for
donations. This is a long term goal we hope to have happen sooner than later.
D. Sign Board - We still want to work on this as a long term goal. Mel is going to
talk to Valley Communications about maybe getting and installing an electronic sign.
3. Events -
A. Movie Night - Want to plan a movie
night for December with popcorn. If December does not work out then maybe
combine it with a game night for Friday January 10th. Bring a game, play a game.
Either way we want to hold a school event that Friday.
B. Bingo for Books - To be held the week of March 7th. Mel will confirm with Ms.
Weisman.
C.
Crafts and Cocoa - Would like to host a craft night with hot cocoa. Either January or for Valentines but might be
too busy.
4. Fundraisers -
A. Natures Vision - Majority voted
and approved Natures Vision to be our next fundraiser. Fundraiser to go home on
January 10th and be turned in January 27th. Would like to try a candle fundraiser in fall of 2014.
B. Original Works - to be set for the end of March in time for Mothers Day delivery.
C. Restaurant Night - Erica brought information on Friendly's, Applebee's and 99
Restaurant. It looks like 99 Restaurant is the easiest to work with as far as
tickets, profits, and availability. Lindsay will call to see how to go about
this. Hoping for a night in March.
5. Other Items -The Greenfield Public Schools are being audited. A meeting is being
held on Tuesday, December 10th from 4:30 to 5:30 at Federal Street School. Would be great if some PTO
parents would attend in honor of Newton School PTO.
The next PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday January 7th 2014 at 6pm in the library.
