Newton PTO Agenda
Attendence: Erica Burns, Jen Perreauly, Melodie Goodwin
1. Goals/expectations (specifically about events)
a. Can we have PTO sponsored events? – Not really, no. A change for this year that came out of the end of last year is that it’s preferred that the school plans events and PTO members and other parents can help at events as needed/requested. Mel’s goal has been to get more teacher participation in the group as it has been minimal in the past.
b. How would the school like our help this year? – PTO will continue fundraising, helping at events, and helping with the special events & fundraisers associated with the schools’ 100th birthday this year
2. Open House
a. Aug 28 6-7, have a table/information available? If so what? – Volunteers to be present are unnecessary, but we can have a table with information set up, similar to last year.
b. We talked about welcome back goodies such as pencils and magnets, maybe something else. These will go home once/after school starts.
3. Fall fundraisers
a. We discussed several options including candles, wreaths, butterbraids & pies, gift cards, and Uncle Jerry’s tees (the bigger company for Natures vision). We decided to do the fundraising a little later and have it so people can shop for the holidays if they want, and opted to go with Uncle Jerry’s Tees and gift cards. No specific date set, but it won’t be going home right away
4. Movie at the garden
a. Movie night at the Garden has been set for Sept 27th showing the Boxtrolls at 9:30am. Tickets will be $5 and can be pre ordered, or bought at the door.
5. Fall bookfair
a. Week of Oct 6- This is a go. Mel will put it on the calendar and look into an event for the same time. Most likely Pajama night, Author’s night or similar reading related event.
6. Other items-
a. 100th Birthday- Our school is turning 100 in 2015! To kick off the celebrations we will be in the fair parade on Sept 4th. We are hoping to have some of the oldest and youngest Newton graduates and students and many in-between. (Jen and/or Mel will look into the historical society about information about our school.) Children 8 and under are free, but anyone older than that will cost $1. (as of 8/16/14 We have reserved 15 wristbands, thinking we can get more if needed-hopefully). Erica will register us. We are hoping to have a float in the parade and need to find someone that can help us. Parade Theme: A Timeless Tradition.
b. We talked about getting paving bricks engraved as a special fundraiser for the playground in conjunction with our 100th birthday. More research is needed.
c. Mel gave us an update on the playground! Looks like we will be getting something around Aug 2015 with some grant money. Our current playground will be updated to make it accessible for this year, and mulch and some other fixes have been made.
7. Sept meeting date- We set the date for our first official meeting as Sept 9th at 5:30.
