Newton PTO Meeting Agenda
March 11th 2013
Attendence: Erica Burns, Tara Cloutier, Angela Morrissey, Chris Derose, Dina LaMagdelaine, Ruthanne Weissman, Jenna Horton
1. Updates
a. Fundraiser- We had approx. 20 participants and raised a combined total of $711 ( $464 bulbs, $247 hillside)
b. Coins for Coats- We raised $120
c. MCAS support- Chris will purchase and bring in the day before. Some cheese, water bottles, and gum
d. Original Works- no real update was given, other than the packets will go home soon because Tina has been doing most of the planning.
e. Field Trips- Erica talked about the field trips, and making sure we don’t go over $2k budget (worked out to approx. $9/student). She also mentioned that Kindergarten is putting in for a second field trip, after a brief discussion, it was decided that assuming the other three grades are able to go on their trips, we can also pay for the 2nd grade K trip assuming there is enough money.

iii. Programs & activities/Classroom support approx $1300
iv. Rollover $1000
b. Reimbursements/requests, - There were none at this time
c. Scholastic news- This magazine was requested for nearly all classrooms for the fall (haven’t heard from Jenna or Erik, but Jenna said she would be interested). Erica will look into the cost.
3. Garden Movie night- due to lesser funds raised than expected Erica brought up the idea of doing a fundraiser at the Garden Cinema. She talked with them and they were booked for may but had June 1, 8, & 15 available. We voted to book the 1st with a back up date of the 8th.
4. Event for April & spring- We continued the discussion from last meeting of various things we could do for this season including bringing outside groups or doing an easy family night. We voted to pay for a group to come in to do an assembly. Maureen had previously mentioned she would ask the staff what they want and get back to Erica. Additional programs were mentioned tonight and we will look into them.
5. Other items
a. Teacher appreciation week May 6-10- briefly discussed just doing one day, instead of all the days.
b. Update the by-laws- Erica gave homework to take a look at the by-laws because after re-reading them She felt like some areas needed to be reworked. She explained that when she wrote them 3 years ago, they were based off of “sample PTO by-laws” and now that the group has evolved, these need to be updated.
c. Field day- Erica just mentioned this briefly so it’s on the groups mind.
d. Officer nominations/voting in April- Erica mentioned that this will be happening next time and to think about it.
