Meeting Minutes
October 1, 2013
Attendance: Melodie Goodwin, Erica Burns, Tara Cloutier,
Jennifer Perreault, Lindsay Siano, Angela Morrissey, Sherri-Lynn Glenn,
Marianne Harcourt
1. Volunteer Program ~
The Newton PTO was very happy to meet Marianne Harcourt and talk
about a volunteer program. She suggested parents getting a CORI check and
making a master list of people who can volunteer and what special skills they
may have. Maybe making volunteer badges separate from the visitor stickers so teachers and
students can get to know the volunteers at school.
2. Review Budget ~
A. balance of the checking account as of 10/01/13
is $2018.95 with $547.00 for the art department.
B. 1st Grade Field Trip ~
Via Email, voted and approved to spend $456 for the first graders to see Stone
Soup at the Academy of Music on November 18th.
C. Kindergarten Apple Orchard Field Trip ~ Voted and approved to pay $354 for the
kindergarteners to go to Apex Orchards.
D. Parade Costs ~ Voted and approved to reimburse FSS PTO $63 in parade costs from
the fair parade. A few other Newton PTO members also donated their personal
money to contribute to the final bill.
3. Events ~
A. Book Fair - October 9th
through October 11th. October 9th to be open during the day. October 10th from
3-6pm and October 11th from 3-7pm during PJ night (5-6pm).
B. PJ night ~ October 11th, Hoping to get 20
volunteers to read family favorite books. Goodnight Moon to be read in several
different languages. PTO discussed paying for cookies or to accept donations of cookies.
PTO voted and approved to buy cafeteria milk cartons, one per person.
C. 1st Grade Family Meal ~ October 9th, food paid for by a grant. PTO will buy
drinks and or water for roughly 150 people.
D. Fall Festival ~ November 21st, Erica had suggested also having a food drive during the festival. Everyone present
thought that was a good idea. Including a dinner of macaroni and cheese, salad, cookies and milk.
The PTO would be responsible for contributing the salad. Set up an outside PTO festival
meeting for all who want to volunteer on October 17th at 6pm at Erica's house. Also need to make a plan for fundraiser sorting and distribution.
4. Fundraisers ~
A. Discussed a spring fundraiser using Nature's Vision. Erica brought several
catalogues in and everyone liked what they had to offer.
5. Projects and Goals ~
A. Clean Up Day to be held Sunday November 3rd from 1-3pm at Newton Street School.
Volunteers should bring their own tools. Get rid of leaves and such.
B. Discovery and Kaboom playground grants. Check out websites and see what we can do to get
funding. Also make a video and get trees program. PTO very active in following through with these leads to better
our current playground for a long term goal.
6. November meeting will be held Tuesday November 5th @ 6pm in the library.
