Review & approval of minutes from March 2015 minutes.
Treasurer’s Report: Our PTO Balance is $5394.79
Field Trip Request: Northfield Mountain – Kindergarteners, 2nd graders pond study
Scholastic News & Times For Kids – EB spoke with our Scholastic rep about the possibility of using scholastic dollars for 2015-2016 grade magazine orders. The School News will cost approx. $500 and the Times is $100 per grade. We cannot use scholastic dollars however the group discussed the benefit of ordering early to receive discount
Vote: Approve the expenditure of purchasing 2015-2016 magazine orders in advance. Approved Unanimous
2015-2016 PTO Officer Elections:
PTO President: Kia Burton –McLaughlin
PTO Treasurer: Jennifer Perreault
Vacant: PTO Vice president, PTO secretary
Discussion: Appointments for vacant positions wills take place in the Fall, allowing new and returning parents the opportunity. KB discussed the need for new Box Tops Coordinator for 2015-2016 school year
Principals Report – Principal Goodwin reported the students loved the PARCC snacks. Newton has been
busy with fixing the roof and modular. “Sprouts to Flowers” is the school wide theme for May.
Box Tops – “Box Tops Lift Newton School Up” inspired by the movie UP is the theme for April which the
incentive of an extra recess for the grade that turns in the most box tops. Newton should receive a check rhis month for $383.60. We will definitely
99 Restaurant – $486.67 was raised for Dining For A Cause ($168 of the total raised through the raffle).
New Fundraiser: Jeanine Fundraisers Incs sent a sample catalog and information about its company and
fundraisers. The profit margin is 50% and the types of products offered range from tupper ware, sweets and novelty items. The group made no decision whether to book this company for 2015-2016 school year.
Bingo For Books Recap– Bingo For Books had a great turn out! We discussed what to do with the extra
books and they will be added to the school library or given out at the end of the school year for summer
Spring Scholastic Book Fair – The Scholastic theme is Under the Sea. MG will speak with teachers about
ideas for a family event during week of the bookfair.
Newton 100th Birthday – The group discussed the upcoming 100th Birthday Celebration. MG discussed the
hopes of having committees formed. KB shared that a page on the PTO website is up that states we are looking for folks to get involved. We discussed advertisement on the radio and in the paper, establishing a Facebook page and email. PTO is committed to having a float in the Franklin County Fair Parade again and hopes to have former and current Newton family join.
